This interview can be summed up in one word: Dawwww! Jaycee is just too cute, and she has a bright future ahead of her. I loved chatting with her.

We spoke right before she went to Nationals in 2018. She did well!! Her story is just amazing and goes to show you, where there's a will, there's a way.

Baton Twirling Project: Are you going to Nationals this summer?

Jaycee: Yes I am.

Baton Twirling Project: Awesome! So what are you most excited about for Nationals?

Jaycee: I’m most excited on the way there because then when I’m on my way there I get to take a nap most of the time.

Baton Twirling Project: I love it. Have you ever been to Nationals before?

Jaycee: I went to Nationals before, but I’ve only went one year. This is my second year. I was five.

Baton Twirling Project: What is your current title and who are you gonna represent at Nationals?

Jaycee: Juvenile Miss Major of the Southeast.

Baton Twirling Project: How did you first heard about Baton Twirling?

Jaycee: I first heard about Baton Twirling when I was three years old, and my Mom, we lived in Jessup. I didn’t have a sport to do and we saw the Baton studio in Jessup and my Mom signed me up for it, and then I just started doing it.

Baton Twirling Project: Where are you from?

Jaycee: I’m from Alma, GA.

Baton Twirling Project: What do you think your biggest accomplishment has been so far as a Twirler?

Jaycee: My biggest accomplishment was when I went to USTA Nationals and I won my solo award in 0-8.

Baton Twirling Project: Oh awesome! Congratulations, that’s so exciting.

Jaycee: Thank you.

Baton Twirling Project: Tell me a little bit more about making a high school Twirling line at 8 years old. That’s so impressive.

Jaycee: Whenever I twirled on the field, I didn’t wanna do it at first, but my Mom told me I had to. Alma didn’t have Majorettes and whenever I came, I twirled 2 or 3 games and then passed then there has been Majorettes been Twirling and all.

Baton Twirling Project: Do you twirl with other girls on the line or is it just you?

Jaycee: There’s other girls on the line, but I’m the only little girl.

Baton Twirling Project: Do they like having you around kinda showing everyone what going on?

Jaycee: I normally just toss and do turns.

Baton Twirling Project: How many hours a day do you think you practice?

Jaycee: I normally practice three or four hours.

Baton Twirling Project: Is it hard work doing all the twirling?

Jaycee: Yes. If you were a Baton Twirler, you would get a lot of work by my Momma. My Mom makes me.

Baton Twirling Project: That’s good though because practice makes perfect. You’ve probably heard that before right?

Jaycee: Yeah.

Baton Twirling Project: What’s you most favorite thing about Baton Twirling?

Jaycee: My most favorite thing about Baton Twirling is the trips because we get to go on a lot of fun trips because we get to swim we get to do all those things.

Baton Twirling Project: Awesome. I like that to. You get to go to the hotel and kinda relax before the competition. Always nice.

Jaycee: I’m mostly going to get all the sleep in the car. There’s more hours in the car then durin’ the night.

Baton Twirling Project: Who has been your biggest influence in Baton Twirling?

Jaycee: There is my coach Megan DeWitt, and my other coach Ceci Dewitt.

Baton Twirling Project: What makes them your favorite person in Baton Twirling?

Jaycee: I’ve been twirling for them about a year, and I’ve been looking up to them a lot.

Baton Twirling Project: What advice would you give to someone who’s your age that is thinking about starting Baton Twirling?

Jaycee: I would tell them never give up, try their hardest, and practice as hard as you can.

Baton Twirling Project: That’s great advice. That’s great advice for older Twirlers too. What is the most exciting thing about Twirling on the field?

Jaycee: The most exciting thing about twirling on the field is whenever you go out there with the band, all the crowd screams with the band, and all and it’s just super fun.

Baton Twirling Project: That’s one of my favorite things too.

Jaycee: Yeah you can hardly hear.

Baton Twirling Project: That was a great interview. Great Job! I’m so excited for you to go to Nationals. Best of Luck. I’ll have my sister there, so she’ll be taking lots and lots of pictures, so I’ll have her look out for you.
